The IES Illumination Awards (IA) program recognizes individuals for professionalism, ingenuity and originality in lighting design based on the individual merit of each entry. Judges are selected from a broad professional spectrum respresenting knowledge of lighting and design excellence. The judging system is entirely based on how well the lighting design meets the program criteria. The Illumination Awards program is not a competition. 2019 marks the 46th anniversary of the IES lighting awards program. 

Anyone (except manufacturers); IES members or nonmembers (with the exclusion of IES staff and IES Board of Directors), may enter a project for an Illumination Award. Agents may also submit. 

The installation must have been completed during the 24 months preceding the January program date listed.

The IES Illumination Awards are comprised of four parallel program categories:

The Control Innovation Award, sponsored by the Lighting Controls Association

Illumination Award for Interior Lighting Design, sponsored by Edwin F. Guth

Illumination Award for Outdoor Lighting Design, sponsored by Eaton

The Energy and Environmental Design Award

 

Awards

The IES Illumination Awards provide a unique opportunity for public recognition of professionalism, ingenuity and originality in lighting design based upon the individual merit of each entry judged against specific criteria. This program is not a competition.

The Illumination Award for Interior Lighting Design sponsored by Edwin F. Guth, the Illumination Award for Outdoor Lighting Design sponsored by Eaton, the Control Innovation Award sponsored by the Lighting Controls Association and the Energy and Environmental Design Award are parallel programs created to recognize outstanding lighting design. 

All projects receive levels of recognition attained by consenus judge scores. 

The Award levels are Section Awards, Awards of Merit, Special Citation, Award of Excellence and Award of Distinction

Illumination Award recipients will be honored at the Illumination Awards Gala held during the IES Annual Conference in Lousiville, KY, on Augut 8, 2019.
